If you are an employer, you may need to be aware of the changes being introduced later this year in respect of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) levels. The current levels are:
£6.50 the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
£5.13 the rate for 18-20 year olds
£3.79 the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
£2.73 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19, or 19 and over and in the first year of their apprenticeship
From 1 October 2015, the NMW rates will increase as follows:
£6.70 the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
£5.30 the rate for 18-20 year olds
£3.87 the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
£3.30 the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19, or 19 and over and in the first year of their apprenticeship
You may also be affected if you employ anyone under 21, as NMW rate changes can kick in during the year (not just from the beginning of October) as your employees become older.
